Start with sleep and privacy
If daylight interrupts sleep, consider blackout fabric and a fitting method that limits edge gaps. Opaque material alone does not make a room completely dark. Outside mounting, overlap or selected side-channel systems can change the result and should be discussed during measurement.
Layer for different times of day
A sheer curtain or light-filtering blind can soften daylight while a separate opaque layer adds privacy at night. Choose colours and textures alongside your wall finish and bedding. Ask for a fabric sample to see how the room feels in morning and evening light.
Keep daily operation practical
Locate manual controls where they are easy to reach and discuss safe positioning around children. For high windows, motorisation can be convenient. Confirm power or charging access, compatible controls and the specific warranty in writing.
